Job Description
Position- Engineering Manager
Reports to Director-Engineering
Qualification-BE/B Tech/ME/MS/MTech/MBA with Engineering degree

Job Summary
The primary role of the Engineering Manager is to direct the activities of assigned software
development team(s) throughout the entire software development lifecycle, including the analysis,
design, implementation, testing, documentation, build and release functions.

It is envisaged that the engineering manager will have approximately 12 engineers under their
guidance across single or multiple projects, lead by Team Leads.

This role has the following main duties and responsibilities:
·Manage all software development, testing, documentation and release activities for
assigned projects.

·Ensure comprehensive and accurate scoping, estimation and planning is performed for all
software development work.

·Ensure all software development work is closely monitored and controlled so that it is
delivered on time, within budget and to agreed quality metrics. Also, ensure that accurate and
efficient project reporting mechanisms are established.

·Provide technical leadership and manage product improvement initiatives.

·Ensure that practical and useable documentation is established and maintained for all
software development processes.

·Maintain comprehensive and ongoing knowledge of current software development and
testing methodologies and recommend software process improvements where necessary.

·Support the definition cycle by communicating with Product Management to to ensure
product requirements are well defined, well understood and managed throughout the software
development lifecycle.

·Manage and mentor individuals involved in the software development process.

·Ensure members of the software development group have a comprehensive understanding of
the application domain.

·Establish team and individual objectives that are aligned with the business objectives
of the software development group and conduct team and individual performance review at regular,
pre-determined intervals.

Essential Skills
The following skills are essential for the role:

·Degree in computer science or related discipline

·Overall software development experience of at least 7 years+

·Experience leading complex software development projects  – minimum of 3 years software
engineering management/Team Lead experience

·Excellent written and verbal communication skills

·Solid experience developing commercial Java software products

·Developed people management and technical leadership skills

·Developed project management skills, including extensive MS Project experience

·Extensive knowledge of programming languages including Java, J2EE and database

·Strong knowledge and development experience with a major, modern, database management
system such as Oracle 10g Server

·Strong knowledge and experience programming in multiple OS environments, specifically
Linux, Solaris and Intel platforms is required

·Strong knowledge of current software development methodologies

·Thorough understanding of the software change management process

·Exceptional analytical and problem solving skills (i.e. proven ability to identify
alternative solutions to complex problems and recommend the most effective solution)

·Proven ability to manage change in a fast moving, high technology product development

·Ability to operate confidently with management at all levels and communicate ideas and
plans, influence key stakeholders and gain senior management agreement

·Proactive self-starter, delivery focused, results orientated, team player, high
professional standards and work ethic, strong-willed but flexible, and capable of making
independent decisions

·Ability to motivate and excite a team.
