Description
Title: Sr. Systems Engineer – Wireless systems
 
Summary:
 
Responsible for general systems engineering for wireless infrastructure products. Work involves specifying product requirements and architecture, analyzing hardware and software designs for performance, scalability and usability.
 
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
 
  • Interface with Product and Program Management and Customer Engg teams
    • Understand and evaluate customer requirements and make strategic technical recommendations.
    • Work with development teams to generate appropriate work estimates.
    • Assist program management in devising viable project plans.
    • Function as the first point of technical contact for the customer.
  • Specifications & Analysis
    • Work with product management to specify marketing requirements.
    • Specify detailed engineering requirements (functional, operational, and performance).
    • Review requirements with customers as well as with the development team.
    • Contribute to and review architecture and design specifications.
    • Guide the system quality assurance team to generate appropriate test strategies, test plans and quality metrics.
    • Evaluate test results, make improvement recommendations to design and present the final outcome to customers.
  • Provide cross-functional technical leadership for the product line.
    • Track industry standards, make contributions as needed
    • Make appropriate design recommendations and trade-offs as needed.
 
General Skills & Knowledge:
 
  • Excellent communication skills. (both spoken and written)
  • Understanding of hardware architecture, software architecture and end-to-end system behaviors.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence technical direction.
  • Proven track record of delivering products from concept through customer support.
  • Should be able to work in the individual contributor role with minimal oversight and lots of initiative.
 
Specialized Skills & Knowledge:
 
  • Experience with IP networking, IP Routing protocols and VoIP over wireless technologies is strongly desirable.
  • Experience in 3G wireless systems is strongly desirable
  • Experience with IP Network Security protocol implementation is a plus.
  • Experience in working with Distributed systems architecture, based on Linux platforms will be essential.
  • Experience in tools/scripting languages, and knowledge of Element Management System Interfaces will be essential.
  • Experience in FMECA and Availability analysis is a plus.
 
Education/Experience:
 
  • Masters degree (or equivalent) and 8+ years of related technical experience
  • Entry Level PhD Degree.
